The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is making significant strides towards securing its energy future, announcing the finalization of three consulting firms to undertake pivotal studies on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the state. This move marks a crucial step in Kerala’s journey towards a more resilient and sustainable power infrastructure.
In a recent decision dated September 23, 2025, the KSEB director board officially empanelled three distinguished companies: DNV MES India Pvt Ltd, Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd, and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP. These expert firms will now delve into the detailed technical and commercial viability of implementing large-scale BESS solutions.
Following this empanelment, the KSEB is set to invite financial proposals from these three highly qualified bidders. This initiative follows a strategic approval in March, where the board endorsed the plan to engage a specialist consultant. The goal is to thoroughly assess the feasibility of deploying BESS units with a substantial cumulative capacity, projected to range from 3000 MWh to 5000 MWh, within the next three to five years. This ambitious rollout aims to bolster grid stability, integrate more renewable energy, and ensure a reliable power supply for all of Kerala.
