In a notable development just before the upcoming local body elections, three Kerala Congress (KC) members of the Kidangoor grama panchayat council have been officially reinstated into the party. These individuals had previously faced expulsion for boldly defying party mandates and forging an alliance with the BJP.
The move to bring them back was announced by Kerala Congress executive chairman Mons Joseph on Thursday, October 9, 2025. This came after party chairman P.J. Joseph opted to reverse the disciplinary actions. The reinstated members include former panchayat president Thomas Maliyekkal, along with Sibi Sibi and Kunjumol Tomy.
A Past Defiance of Party Orders
Their expulsion occurred two years prior, a direct consequence of their decision to collaborate with the BJP. This alliance was formed to secure control of the Kidangoor panchayat, directly contravening the party’s clear directives to partner with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at the grassroots level. Such a deviation was unequivocally classified as a severe breach of party discipline.
However, this unconventional coalition proved short-lived. After a year and a half, a dissenting BJP member unexpectedly crossed over to the LDF, causing the alliance to lose its majority. In the wake of this political shift, the Kerala Congress members promptly distanced themselves from the BJP.
According to the party executive chairman, their re-entry was granted only after the three members provided firm assurances to the party leadership, pledging their unwavering commitment to uphold party policies and strict adherence to discipline going forward.
