Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has unequivocally condemned the recent attempted assault on Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai within the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court. He characterized the incident as a perilous symptom of the “hatred fostered by the Sangh Parivar.”
In an official statement, Vijayan highlighted media accounts detailing how an individual, disguised as a lawyer, allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice during ongoing court proceedings. The assailant reportedly shouted accusations that the Chief Justice was opposing Sanatana Dharma.
More Than an Isolated Incident
“This incident cannot be simply dismissed as the emotional outburst of an unstable individual,” Mr. Vijayan asserted. “Instead, it exposes a profound crisis fueled by the toxic communal rhetoric of the Sangh Parivar, which actively radicalizes people and incites them towards violent actions.”
He further elaborated that such aggressive acts, even when targeting the nation’s highest judicial body, are direct consequences of an ideology that cultivates intense animosity and division. He pointed to the long-standing culture of intolerance promoted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its associated organizations over the past century as the driving force behind these dangerous mindsets.
The Chief Minister issued a stark warning, stating that this event serves as a chilling reminder of the same extremist ideology that tragically led to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. He urged against viewing the incident as an isolated occurrence, emphasizing, “It must be recognized as a direct manifestation of the violent and aggressive political culture championed by the Sangh Parivar, a culture that demands urgent exposure and resolute opposition.”
