Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting this Monday to deliberate on the future of the contested land in Munambam. This decision follows the recommendations put forth by the C.N. Ramachandran Nair Commission, as announced by Industries and Law Minister P. Rajeeve in Kochi on Saturday.
Local residents, led by Fr. Antony Xavier Tharayil, expressed their gratitude to the State government during a meeting with Minister Rajeeve in Kalamassery. Their appreciation signals a positive reception to the government’s proactive efforts in this matter.
The backdrop to this meeting is the Kerala High Court’s recent ruling on Friday, which clarified the nature of the Munambam land. The court determined that the property is not a Waqf asset but rather a gift from Mohammed Siddique Sait to the Farooq College management. It was this complex and long-standing issue that prompted the State government to establish the C.N. Ramachandran Nair Commission, tasked with devising a permanent resolution.
Furthermore, Minister Rajeeve emphasized that the High Court’s decision explicitly grants the government the authority to implement the Commission’s recommendations, paving the way for a definitive solution to the dispute.
