After heavy rainfall brought by Cyclone Montha, floodwaters from the Krishna River are now surging into the Prakasam Barrage. This has prompted Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu to issue an urgent advisory: all city residents must boil their drinking water for the next two to three days to ensure its safety.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 30, the Commissioner explained that the influx of muddy water has significantly raised the turbidity (cloudiness) levels in the public water supply. He reassured the public that the GMC Head Water Works is diligently overseeing the situation, continuously monitoring and maintaining optimal levels of alum and chlorine to purify the water before it reaches homes across Guntur.
To guarantee quality, Mr. Srinivasulu has directed relevant officials to collect a minimum of ten drinking water samples from each operational area. These samples will undergo thorough chlorine level checks to confirm strict adherence to safety standards.
Furthermore, citizens are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant. If you notice any signs of contaminated water or detect pipeline leakages, please report them immediately to the GMC helpline at 0863-2345103. Your prompt action can help prevent health risks in our community.
