Dehradun: The spiritual journey to Kedarnath Dham has seen a remarkable surge in pilgrim numbers, with a total of 16.56 lakh devotees having paid their respects at the sacred temple during the ongoing Chardham Yatra. This figure surpasses previous records, indicating a robust recovery and increased enthusiasm for the pilgrimage.
The Chardham Yatra, which experienced initial delays due to adverse weather conditions including rain and snowfall in higher altitudes, has now regained momentum. The state government has implemented comprehensive arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims, even amidst intermittent bad weather. Deployments of army personnel along the route and the readiness of JCBs for debris clearance in landslide-prone areas underscore the commitment to maintaining uninterrupted access.
The Yatra commenced with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines on April 30, followed by Kedarnath on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4. While the monsoon season brought its share of challenges, including heavy rainfall and landslides that impacted routes like Dharali on the Gangotri pilgrimage path, swift restoration efforts by state and central agencies have brought normalcy back.
Authorities continue to advise pilgrims to exercise caution, especially in light of weather forecasts predicting rain and snowfall. Pilgrims are urged to seek safe shelter during inclement weather. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reiterated the government’s top priority: the safety and well-being of pilgrims and local residents. District magistrates involved in the Yatra have been directed to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place and to remain prepared for immediate relief and rescue operations in case of any emergency.
This significant increase in pilgrim numbers reflects the enduring spiritual appeal of Kedarnath Dham and the successful management of the Yatra by the authorities.
