K. Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruti, recently revealed that she had personally alerted her brother and BRS working president, K.T. Rama Rao, to alleged irregularities within the Kaleshwaram project files as far back as 2016.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Kavitha explained that project documents were reportedly being sent straight to the Chief Minister, bypassing crucial lower-level scrutiny. She suggested that a thorough examination of the Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission report would clarify the full extent of these issues.
Kavitha explicitly stated that her concerns with BRS leader T. Harish Rao were solely focused on the contentious Kaleshwaram project, clarifying that she held no other personal animosity towards him.
However, she did highlight ongoing ‘attacks’ against her, which she attributed to media outlets supporting Mr. Harish Rao, as well as social media groups linked to BRS and Mr. Santosh Rao, emphasizing that the public is well aware of these deliberate campaigns.
Addressing speculation about forming a new political party, Kavitha remarked on the challenging nature of carving out a political niche, stating that ‘no one gives space in politics, and one has to move ahead with determination.’ She firmly dismissed any possibility of joining the Congress, citing a lack of personal interest and absence of communication from the party.
Shifting focus to the Almatti dam dispute, Kavitha pointed out that Karnataka is reportedly proceeding with plans to increase the dam’s height, despite a standing Supreme Court stay. She urged the Telangana government to promptly challenge this in the Supreme Court, warning that if they fail to act, Telangana Jagruti would take the matter to court itself. She also noted Maharashtra’s declared opposition to Karnataka’s actions.
Regarding her resignation, she confirmed submitting a letter to the Legislative Council Chairman and expressed her desire for it to be accepted without delay. She also indicated her willingness to resubmit the letter if required.
Finally, Kavitha confirmed her plans to participate in the upcoming Bathukamma celebrations, scheduled for Sunday in her father’s ancestral village of Chintamadaka.
