A profound tragedy struck during the third phase of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party president and actor Vijay’s statewide political tour. On September 27, 2025, at a rally addressed by Mr. Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, a horrific stampede claimed the lives of at least 41 individuals.
The event, held in Velusamypuram, commenced at 7:20 p.m. However, thousands of eager fans and supporters had already converged on the heavily congested roads since morning, enduring long waits just to witness and hear Mr. Vijay speak.
As the immense crowd, largely composed of youngsters, surged forward towards the vehicles in a desperate attempt to get closer to the popular actor-turned-politician, many who had been standing since 10 a.m. were involuntarily swept into the movement. With dangerously little space to maneuver, the situation rapidly spiraled into disarray and panic, ultimately leading to the fatal stampede.
Witnessing the escalating danger, with numerous people fainting and the scene growing increasingly out of control, Mr. Vijay abruptly concluded his speech. He promptly departed from the location, which by then had become a heartbreaking scene resembling a disaster zone.
