Karnataka’s Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, made a significant statement on Wednesday, declaring that All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge would be “most welcome” if he chose to re-enter state politics. This invitation arrives amidst swirling speculation and active debate regarding a potential leadership change within the Karnataka government.
Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Mr. Parameshwara emphasized the party’s respect for the high command’s decisions. “Should Mr. Kharge express a desire to return to Karnataka, any such move would be honored. He is a seasoned and respected leader, and his entry into state politics would be met with utmost regard,” he affirmed.

However, when pressed about the possibility of a leadership transition within the Karnataka government, Parameshwara maintained that he was not the appropriate authority to comment. “That decision rests entirely with the high command,” he stated. “Whether a change will occur, and who the potential candidate might be, are questions I am not authorized to answer.”

Growing Support for D.K. Shivakumar’s Candidacy
In a related development, several Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) have once again voiced their strong support for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s bid for the Chief Minister’s position.
Congress MLA H.C. Balakrishna highlighted Mr. Shivakumar’s pivotal role in bringing the party back to power in the state. “I have full confidence that the high command will recognize his efforts and provide him with this opportunity,” Balakrishna asserted. “They are keenly aware of the significant work Mr. Shivakumar has undertaken for the party.”
Echoing similar sentiments, fellow Congress MLA Belur Gopal Krishna acknowledged the contributions of both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar to the party. “Ultimately, it is the high command’s prerogative to make these crucial decisions, and we, as party members, are committed to abiding by their directives,” Gopal Krishna remarked.
Regarding the anticipated Cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Gopal Krishna expressed a preference for a complete overhaul rather than a mere reorganization. “A new Cabinet should be established,” he urged, “as a simple reshuffle often primarily benefits only a select few leaders, neglecting broader party interests.”
