The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) has achieved a significant milestone, successfully resolving 5,575 cases through its extensive ’90 Days for the Nation’ Mediation Campaign. This impactful initiative, which ran from July 1 to October 6, aimed to expedite legal resolutions across the state.
During this period, legal experts meticulously reviewed an astonishing 1,386,837 pending cases from various courts. Of these, a substantial 76,197 cases were carefully selected and directed to mediation centers for amicable resolution, as announced by Parashuram Doddmani, member-secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and civil judge in Dharwad.
From the referred cases, 47,080 cases actively entered the mediation process, culminating in the successful settlement of 5,575 disputes.
While 26,144 cases still await resolution, the mediation efforts are ongoing, with 15,361 cases actively progressing through the centers, promising further positive outcomes.
The impact of the campaign is particularly notable in family matters, with 3,038 matrimonial and domestic violence disputes finding resolution. A heartwarming outcome saw 159 couples successfully reunited, mending strained relationships through dialogue.
Beyond family issues, the initiative also tackled various other legal challenges, resolving 668 cheque bounce cases, 649 partition suits, and 576 other civil disputes, demonstrating the versatility of mediation.
Significantly, the campaign brought closure to long-standing legal battles, successfully settling 177 cases that had been pending for over five years, 23 cases stagnant for more than a decade, and even six cases that had dragged on for over 15 years.
The campaign’s humane approach extended to its participants, with 163 senior citizens receiving much-needed legal assistance. This massive undertaking was made possible by the dedication of 1,300 professional mediators who committed their time and expertise to the cause.
