Karnataka’s State Cabinet has officially moved to establish a dedicated ministry. This new body will oversee and ensure the effective implementation of all development projects funded by the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board. Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur confirmed this significant decision.
Minister Darshanapur made this announcement during the Kalyana Karnataka Utsav celebrations in Yadgir, where he proudly unfurled the National Flag. The event marked a moment of significant progress for the region.
“For a long time, the people of this region have passionately advocated for an exclusive ministry focused on Kalyana Karnataka’s development,” Darshanapur stated. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has recognized and responded to this vital demand, officially announcing the formation of this new ministry.”
In another major decision, the Cabinet has approved increasing the height of the Alamatti dam from 519 meters to 524 meters. This expansion comes with a comprehensive compensation plan: irrigated land owners will receive ₹40 lakh per acre, while dry land owners will receive ₹30 lakh per acre. This measure anticipates the submergence of an estimated 75,563 acres due to the dam’s expanded backwaters.
The Minister also took a moment to reflect on the region’s historical significance, recalling the pivotal freedom struggle against the Hyderabad Nizam. He noted that the Nizam’s forces surrendered to the Indian Army during Operation Polo, which ultimately liberated the Hyderabad Karnataka region.
Darshanapur emphasized the government’s ambition to develop the Kalyana Karnataka region comprehensively, mirroring the progress seen in the older Mysuru region across all sectors. He reiterated the State government’s unwavering commitment, highlighting the annual allocation of ₹5,000 crore specifically for the region’s upliftment.
