Karnataka’s Minister for Social Welfare, H.C. Mahadevappa, revealed that the Department of Kannada and Culture is currently examining the proposal to include ‘Boudharudhyana’ in the State Anthem.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru on Saturday, Dr. Mahadevappa confirmed that his department had received a formal request for this inclusion, which is now under active review.
This demand was prominently featured among the resolutions passed at the recent ‘Bouddha Maha Sammelan’ (Grand Buddhist Convention) held in Mysuru. The event saw the attendance of several high-profile dignitaries, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, and Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi.
R. Purushotham, former Mayor of Mysuru and chairman of the Sammelan, highlighted that the term ‘Boudharudhyana’ is, in fact, part of the original composition of Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujathe, the revered State Anthem penned by poet laureate Kuvempu.
Addressing ‘November Revolution’ Speculation
Dr. Mahadevappa also took the opportunity to dispel rumors circulating about a potential ‘November revolution’ within the party. He firmly stated, “There is no such thing as November ‘kranti’ (revolution),” reiterating that Mr. Siddaramaiah is set to continue as the Chief Minister for the entirety of the State’s term.
Regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s earlier statement about serving a full term if permitted by the Congress high command, Dr. Mahadevappa clarified that all crucial party decisions ultimately rest with the high command.
When questioned about an impending Cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Mahadevappa emphasized that this decision, too, lies with the party’s central leadership. He acknowledged that there is nothing improper in legislators aspiring to ministerial positions during a potential reshuffle.
Addressing reports of a heated debate with Energy Minister K.J. George during a Cabinet meeting, Dr. Mahadevappa described it as a “healthy discussion” typical of Cabinet proceedings, confirming that a resolution was successfully reached.
