Karnataka’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, declared on Tuesday that the vibrant Dasara festival beautifully embodies women’s pride, prosperity, unwavering patience, and formidable strength. She eloquently highlighted that the core spirit of Vijayadashami lies in revering the Goddess who steadfastly safeguards the virtuous while triumphing over malevolence.
During her inaugural address at the Women’s Dasara, an event thoughtfully organized by the Women and Child Dasara Sub-Committee at J.K. Grounds, Ms. Hebbalkar praised women for their profound contributions to global culture.
Reflecting on history, she noted, “While ancient kings were the custodians of cultural traditions, today, it is our government that celebrates them with magnificent grandeur.”
Ms. Hebbalkar further elaborated on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s commitment to empowering women economically. This vision is realized through dedicated employment opportunities and initiatives designed to foster self-reliant lives. She proudly mentioned that the government’s five key guarantee schemes, specifically crafted with women in mind, are already bringing substantial benefits to millions across the state.
Emphasizing the transformative shift, the Minister stated, “Women have moved far beyond the confines of kitchens and traditional four walls. They stand as powerful symbols of self-respect, leading their lives with unparalleled dignity. Their capabilities span from delicate artistry, like crafting flowers, to monumental achievements, such as reaching the moon – truly, women possess boundless strength.”
She also observed a positive evolution in societal perceptions, highlighting that fathers are increasingly supportive of their daughters pursuing independent lives.
The Minister also conveyed her immense pride in Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mushtaq, who had the honor of inaugurating this year’s Dasara festivities. Ms. Hebbalkar acknowledged Mushtaq’s significant role in bringing international recognition to India’s rich literary heritage.
Later, Ms. Hebbalkar toured the vibrant exhibition and sales stalls, visibly impressed by the exceptional creativity and artistry showcased by the participating women.
Adding to the day’s significant addresses, Pushpa Amarnath, Vice-Chairperson of the Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, also spoke to the attendees.
The expo proudly featured more than 35 diverse stalls this year, presented by various women’s groups such as the Prakriti Girijan Federation, Chamundeshwari Shakti Sangha, R.L.H.P. Women’s Union, Vaibhav Lakshmi Self-Help Group, Dhanalakshmi Stree Shakti Mahila Sangha, Makka Masjid Stree Shakti Sangha, and Shri Chikkamma Stree Shakti Sangha.
