The Karnataka State Cabinet recently made a significant decision, declaring that disciplinary action would be taken against government officers and employees who have abstained from conducting the critical Social and Educational Survey currently underway across the state. This directive was announced by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H. K. Patil following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 25.
Minister Patil emphasized that strict measures would be enforced against any government personnel, particularly those in Bengaluru, who neglect their responsibilities related to this survey. The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes launched this comprehensive social and educational mapping initiative on September 22, and it is slated to conclude on October 7.
Reports indicate a considerable number of employees took leave, coinciding with school and college holidays and the Dasara festival, leading to concerns about participation. Patil acknowledged that initial days of the survey were also plagued by server-related issues in several districts, but assured that steps have been taken to resolve these technical glitches.
To further address the progress and challenges of the survey, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to hold a video conference with Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of all Zilla Panchayats on September 26 at 11:30 a.m.
