The Karnataka state government has reportedly finalized the names of three individuals to fill the vacant positions within the Karnataka Information Commission, aiming to bolster transparency and public access to information.
During a significant meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the chosen candidates were reportedly confirmed. They include Richard Vincent D’Souza, a distinguished former IAS officer, and two seasoned journalists: Venkat Singh, and Mahesh Valvekar, who currently serves as an officer on special duty to Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti.
This decision follows a previous instance where the Congress government had also appointed three journalists as information commissioners, indicating a continued trend in selecting diverse professional backgrounds for these roles.
Sources close to the administration suggest that the official notification confirming these three new appointments is anticipated to be released on Monday, October 13, 2025, signaling the imminent induction of the new commissioners.
The crucial selection meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H. K. Patil, who collectively participated in the finalization of these names.
These upcoming appointments are particularly timely as current Chief Information Commissioner Ashit Mohan Prasad is scheduled to retire on October 31, 2025, paving the way for a refreshed leadership in the state’s information oversight body.
