In a significant move for job seekers, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Friday that the state government has approved crucial amendments to relax the age criteria for recruitment into Police Sub-Inspector and Constable positions.
During a pivotal high-level meeting, Minister Parameshwara instructed officials to revise the existing cadre and recruitment regulations. This revision now sets the maximum age for Sub-Inspector roles at 32 years for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and backward class candidates, and 30 years for those in the general category. Similarly, for Police Constable positions, the revised upper age limit is 30 years for SC/ST and backward class applicants, and 27 years for general category candidates.
Prior to these amendments, the age ceilings were notably lower. Sub-Inspector aspirants from SC/ST and backward classes faced an age limit of 30 years, while general category candidates were restricted to 28 years. For Constable roles, the limits were 27 years and 25 years for the respective categories.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Parameshwara emphasized that the relaxation of age limits for police recruitment has been a persistent and widely supported demand from the public.
“Following extensive consultations with top brass from the Police Department, I have formally ordered these crucial amendments,” he stated. “This decision is set to unlock significant opportunities for thousands of eager job aspirants.” The Minister also added that he has instructed the department to accelerate the process of filling existing vacancies.
