Mysuru is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the annual State-level Dasara CM Cup Sports Meet from September 22 to 25. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is slated to officially open the highly anticipated event at 4:30 p.m. on September 22nd, marking a vibrant start to the Dasara celebrations.
According to Chethan, Commissioner of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, this annual meet is a crucial platform for discovering hidden sporting talent, especially from rural parts of the state, with competitions held across various levels including taluk, district, division, and state. This year, the event has expanded to include a special category dedicated to local traditional sports, bringing the total to five distinct categories.
A staggering 3,230 athletes, with 646 participants representing each division, are expected to showcase their skills in 26 different disciplines. These thrilling competitions will unfold across 13 venues throughout the city. In a modern touch, a new digital platform has been introduced to offer real-time updates on event schedules, venue details, official information, and results directly to participants.
Beyond the well-known sports, the meet will also feature unique local events designed to celebrate regional talents. These include Blind Chess, Cycle Polo, Karate, Bodybuilding, and the challenging Chamundi Hill Climb. Exciting cash prizes await the winners: for the Chamundi Hill Climb, prizes are set at ₹10,000, ₹7,000, and ₹5,000. Individual category winners will receive ₹8,000, ₹5,000, and ₹2,500, with separate prize structures for team events.
Competitions will take place at various prestigious venues across Mysuru. Key locations include Chamundi Vihara Stadium for athletics, basketball, hockey, and volleyball; Manasagangotri Indoor Stadium for badminton; Mysore University Pavilion for football, kabaddi, and ball badminton; Maharaja’s Indoor Stadium for judo; Yuvaraja’s Indoor Stadium for taekwondo; Devaraj Urs Pavilion for wrestling; Mysore Tennis Club for lawn tennis; and the Ring Road for exhilarating cycling events.
Notable officials present included A.T. Johnson, Special Officer of the Dasara Sub-Committee and MUDA Secretary, along with Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak and other committee members.
