The mother of a 22-year-old law student has come forward with serious allegations of police involvement and a subsequent cover-up following a violent attack on her son in Kanpur. The incident occurred after a dispute over the price of medicine at a local pharmacy.
The victim, Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a first-year LLB student, was reportedly attacked by the pharmacy owner, Amar Singh Chauhan, his brother Vijay Singh, and two associates. The brutal assault, which involved a chopper, left Abhijeet with a slit stomach and two chopped fingers. He also sustained head injuries requiring 14 stitches.
Adding to the family’s distress, Abhijeet’s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, claims that the accused used their influence to file a false extortion case against her and her son, despite Abhijeet being critically injured and fighting for his life. She stated, “Instead of arresting those behind the murderous attack, police booked my son.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur), Ranjeet Kumar, has confirmed that an FIR for extortion was initially registered based on the shop owner’s complaint. However, he clarified that a new case was filed once the details of the assault came to light.
Authorities have arrested three individuals, including the pharmacy owner, while a search is ongoing for the fourth suspect. The incident raises grave concerns about the escalation of violence over minor disputes and the alleged protection offered by influential individuals within the community.
The harrowing ordeal began when Abhijeet visited the pharmacy on Saturday evening. An argument over a medicine’s price quickly escalated into a savage attack. After collapsing on the road, Abhijeet was denied admission by four different hospitals due to his critical condition before finally being admitted to Regency Hospital, where he underwent a two-hour surgery.
