The Solapur Division of Central Railway recently spearheaded widespread cleanliness and awareness drives across its numerous stations. These efforts were part of the ongoing ‘Swachhata Pakhwada 2025’ campaign, which proudly reinforces the division’s dedication to the ‘Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (Clean Rail–Clean India Mission).
During the third and fourth days of this two-week initiative, specifically October 3rd and 4th, a concentrated effort was made to clean stations under the special theme of ‘Swachh Stations’ (Clean Stations).
A Multi-Station Clean-Up Effort
On October 3rd, a significant cleaning operation was launched at prominent stations such as Solapur, Kalaburagi, Wadi, Kurduvadi, Latur, and Pandharpur. This comprehensive drive involved deep cleaning of platforms, restrooms, and drainage systems. Furthermore, officials diligently checked cleaning equipment, tools, and the protective gear provided to sanitation staff to guarantee everything was in excellent working order.
To facilitate efficient waste management, dual-compartment dustbins were strategically placed at major stations for the effective segregation of wet and dry waste, allowing for further separation into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. Additionally, Carriage and Wagon (C&W) department officials carried out inspections of water hydrant pipes to ensure their proper maintenance and secure placement.
The very next day, these crucial cleaning efforts expanded to encompass many other stations throughout the division, including Arag, Kem, Nagansur, Dhawlas, Sangola, Salagare, Wakav, Malikpeth, Angar, Parewadi, Washimbe, Pophalaj, Jeur, Mohol, Boroti, Taj Sultanpur, Martur, and Hirenanduru. The teams diligently cleaned platforms, tracks, offices, and the general station areas, ensuring restrooms were spotless where available.
To foster greater environmental awareness, frequent announcements were broadcast at major stations. These messages strongly advised against the use of single-use plastic and encouraged passengers to refrain from littering, emphasizing the importance of keeping railway premises pristine.
Embracing Green Energy Solutions
In a further step towards sustainability, the Electrical Department conducted thorough inspections of rooftop solar panels installed across various locations. This was done to guarantee optimal performance and involved cleaning panels where necessary to boost efficiency and maximize power generation.
While larger stations benefit from dual-compartment dustbins for superior waste segregation, smaller stations have been provided with single-type bins, tailored to their passenger traffic. Station Managers have been given clear directives to ensure these bins are correctly placed and meticulously maintained.
In an official statement, the Central Railway affirmed, “Through these sustained efforts, the Solapur Division has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to fostering clean, green, and welcoming stations, perfectly aligning with the overarching vision of the Swachh Rail–Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”
