A monumental step towards bolstering India’s maritime capabilities has been taken as the Kakinada-based San Maritime India Private Limited proudly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. This landmark agreement paves the way for a grand ₹200-crore shipyard development project along the pristine Kakinada coast, with an ambitious target to commence operations in the financial year 2026-27.
The formal pact was inked on October 28, 2025, during the prestigious India Maritime Week (IMW)-2025 held in Mumbai. Dignitaries present included San Maritime Director Sheik Ahmed Alisha and Shyam Jagannathan, the Director-General of Shipping from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Union Minister of Sports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, graced the occasion, highlighting the national importance of such strategic collaborations.
As part of this crucial partnership, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is committed to providing essential support, including vital subsidies, expert technical assistance, and comprehensive guidance. This extensive backing will facilitate the successful launch of the project, which encompasses crucial infrastructure like modern slipways, advanced crawler cranes, and state-of-the-art fabrication sheds. Sheik Ahmed Alisha affirmed that this initiative is not just about shipbuilding; it’s a powerful engine for local prosperity, projected to generate direct employment opportunities for a minimum of 100 individuals. San Maritime India Private Limited brings over 15 years of invaluable experience in the shipbuilding and marine services sector, ensuring a robust foundation for this ambitious endeavor.
