During Cyclone Montha, several areas in Kadapa, particularly those typically vulnerable to flooding, remained remarkably clear and unaffected. This positive outcome is a direct result of comprehensive preventative drainage clearance operations carried out just two weeks prior to the storm.
Reddeppagari Srinivasa Reddy, a politburo member of the TDP, accompanied by staff from the Kadapa Municipal Corporation (KMC), inspected various low-lying localities including Apsara Circle, Buggavanka, and the Government Juvenile Home campus.
The team was astounded to witness clear water flowing freely within the drainage systems, without any spillage onto the roads – a stark contrast to previous incidents where these areas would resemble a small sea after heavy rainfall. This efficient water flow was largely due to Mr. Srinivasa Reddy’s earlier directive, issued a fortnight ago, instructing KMC officials to desilt drains and remove any encroachments that obstructed natural water pathways.
“These concerted efforts have truly paid off, and we are seeing a perfectly clear flow today. There is no sign of water stagnation anywhere, and I sincerely appreciate the Municipal Corporation authorities for their excellent work,” Mr. Reddy remarked, commending their successful preparedness.
