A Cry for Justice: Remembering Soujanya and Demanding Accountability
Twelve years after the tragic murder of Soujanya in 2012, concerned citizens and various organizations took to the streets of Mysuru on Thursday. Their powerful demonstration aimed to shed light on the authorities’ apparent failure to deliver justice in the long-unresolved case.
Organizations like Samaana Manasara Vedike and Dharmasthala Dourjanya Virodhi Vedike emphasized that this protest is part of a broader, statewide movement. This movement seeks justice for numerous other victims who have allegedly faced assault, murder, molestation, or disappeared without a trace over the past two decades, particularly in connection with incidents reported in Dharmasthala.
Allegations Against Officials and Political Interference
Protesters submitted a memorandum, specifically calling for decisive action against officials deemed responsible for the inadequate investigation into Soujanya’s case. They stressed the urgent need to identify and apprehend the true perpetrators who remain at large.
Furthermore, the activists strongly criticized the BJP, accusing the party of obstructing the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) efforts. They alleged that the BJP attempted to impede inquiries into a suspected mass burial in Dharmasthala and intimidated crucial eyewitnesses. A key demand from the government is the immediate withdrawal of all cases filed against individuals who have been actively campaigning for justice for Soujanya and other alleged victims.
