The Additional District and Sessions Court-IV has once again deferred its judgment in the highly publicized Sajitha murder case. Originally, Judge Kenneth George convicted Chenthamara for the murder on Tuesday, with sentencing initially scheduled for Thursday. However, the much-anticipated verdict has now been pushed back to Saturday.
This case is just one part of a grim saga involving Chenthamara, who also stands accused in the shocking double murder of a mother and son earlier this year in Pothundy. The tragic incident occurred in January, adding another layer of complexity to his legal battles.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Chenthamara participated remotely via videoconference from Viyyur Central Jail. The prosecution passionately argued for capital punishment, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. In response, the defense lawyer urged the court to consider the 2019 Sajitha murder verdict independently, asserting it should not be swayed by the more recent double murder from 2025.
Chenthamara’s legal team further highlighted that prior to the Sajitha murder case, their client had no recorded involvement in any minor offenses, suggesting a sudden and dramatic shift in his criminal history.
Chenthamara’s notoriety escalated significantly when, astonishingly, while out on bail, he murdered Sajitha’s widower, Sudhakaran, and Sudhakaran’s mother, Lakshmi, on January 27, 2025. Investigators believe his motive for both the 2019 murder of Sajitha and the 2025 double murder was a baseless suspicion that they were involved in his wife’s decision to leave him.
Despite the police filing the chargesheet for the Sajitha murder case back in 2020, the trial only commenced in August 2025. Numerous witnesses, including Chenthamara’s estranged wife, her brother, and several friends, provided compelling testimonies against him during the proceedings.
