In a grim turn of events, the primary suspect in the murder of journalist Lakshmi Narayan Singh, also known as Pappu, has been arrested. The apprehension took place late Thursday night following a police encounter in Prayagraj, officials confirmed on Friday.
Singh, a 54-year-year-old journalist and nephew of former High Court Bar Association chief Ashok Singh, was fatally attacked with a knife near Harsh Hotel on Thursday evening. Despite being rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, he was declared dead by medical professionals due to the severity of his injuries.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Pal Sharma, evidence gathered from the crime scene and witness testimonies indicate that Vishal, along with accomplices, was responsible for the attack. Investigations revealed that Vishal had purchased the weapon used in the assault from Machhli Bazaar in Khuldabad.
During a late-night operation near the scene of the crime, Vishal sustained leg injuries after being shot multiple times during the encounter and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital. Sharma also stated that efforts are actively underway to locate another individual involved in the killing, while two other suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.
Initial findings suggest a recent dispute between the accused and the deceased, though the precise nature of their disagreement is still under thorough investigation.
