In a surprising turn of events, Jharkhand’s ruling party, the JMM, declared on Monday (October 20, 2025) that it would not participate in the Bihar Assembly elections. The party claims this decision stems from a “political conspiracy” by its allies, the RJD and Congress, who allegedly deprived the JMM of seats within the Mahagathbandhan alliance.
Speaking to reporters, senior JMM leader Sudivya Kumar stated that his party plans to critically review its alliance with both the Congress and RJD in Jharkhand, promising a “befitting reply” to what they perceive as a significant snub.
This announcement follows just two days after the Hemant Soren-led party indicated its intention to contest independently in Bihar, initially planning to run in six Assembly segments after earlier seat-sharing discussions reportedly failed.
“The RJD and Congress bear responsibility for politically maneuvering to prevent JMM from contesting as part of the alliance,” Kumar asserted. “The JMM will respond appropriately and re-examine its future partnership with RJD and Congress.”
The JMM had previously announced on Saturday (October 18, 2025) its intention to field candidates in Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria, Manihari, Jamui, and Pirpainti – constituencies scheduled for the second phase of polling on November 11. Monday (October 20, 2025) marked the final day for submitting nomination papers for these seats.
