Parvez Rasool, a celebrated cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir, declared his retirement from the professional sport on Monday, October 20, 2025. This significant announcement comes more than a decade after he made history as the first player from the region to represent India on the international stage.
Throughout his international career, Rasool played one One-Day International (ODI) for India against Bangladesh in June 2014, and a single Twenty20 International (T20I) match against England in January 2017.
Taking to social media, Rasool shared a heartfelt message about his career: “It’s been an incredible journey one filled with dreams, hard work, joy, and countless memories that I will cherish forever. From local grounds to representing my team and my country, In cricket Allah has given me everything I ever wished for. Thankful to my family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their love, trust, and constant support throughout this journey. Every moment I’ve spent on the field has been an honour and a blessing.”
Rasool affirmed that while he is stepping away from the competitive world of professional cricket, his passion for the game remains undimmed. He plans to continue playing for enjoyment and dedicates himself to mentoring aspiring young cricketers. He also expressed appreciation for the steadfast support provided by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Rasool’s initial call-up to the Indian squad for the 2013 Zimbabwe ODI series sparked immense celebration across Jammu & Kashmir. However, his subsequent exclusion from the playing XI was met with widespread disappointment and criticism. He would, thankfully, go on to make his international debut for India the very next year.
His selection also prompted ‘The Hindu’ to publish an editorial in 2013, highlighting the significance of his inclusion.
His journey also included an Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2013 with the erstwhile Pune Warriors, a moment he described as the ‘proudest day’ of his life. Following this, he spent two seasons playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A testament to his enduring career, on October 3, 2018, Rasool achieved another milestone, becoming the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play 100 List-A matches.
