A significant anti-Maoist operation in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Monday (September 22, 2025) resulted in the death of one Maoist, according to local police.
The intense gun battle unfolded in the dense Abhujmaad forest area, which shares a border with Maharashtra. Security forces initiated a search operation earlier in the morning based on credible intelligence regarding the presence of Maoist cadres in the region.
Authorities confirmed the recovery of a male Maoist’s body from the encounter site. Intermittent exchanges of fire were still ongoing as of the latest reports.
This latest incident brings the total number of Maoists eliminated in Chhattisgarh this year to 248. A large majority, 219, were killed within the Bastar division, which encompasses seven districts known for insurgent activity. Additionally, 27 Maoists were neutralized in Gariaband district (Raipur division), and two others in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district (Durg division).
Notably, just a few weeks prior, on September 11, ten Maoists, including Modem Balakrishna, a prominent central committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, were killed during another encounter in Gariaband district.
