INS Vikrant Shakes Pakistan: PM Modi Highlights India’s Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spent Diwali with the brave naval personnel aboard the INS Vikrant, India’s cutting-edge, domestically built aircraft carrier. He proudly described the vessel as a powerful embodiment of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ highlighting India’s growing self-reliance.

The Prime Minister made his way to the INS Vikrant, anchored off the coast of Goa, on Sunday evening. The journey was conducted discreetly. Onboard, he expressed his profound connection to the moment, stating, “Today, on one side I have infinite horizons and infinite sky, and on the other side I have this giant, INS Vikrant, embodying infinite powers. The glow of the sun’s rays on the ocean’s waters is like the Diwali lamps lit by brave soldiers.”

The evening was filled with engaging activities, including an awe-inspiring air power demonstration showcasing the prowess of MiG-29 fighter jets performing take-offs and landings on the carrier’s deck, even in challenging night conditions. This was followed by a cultural program where naval officers and sailors presented patriotic songs, including one commemorating the success of Operation Sindoor.

Reflecting on his tradition of celebrating festivals with the armed forces, Modi shared, “People love celebrating Diwali with their families. And so do I, which is why every year I meet our Army and security personnel who keep our nation safe.” He also participated in a yoga session on the deck of the INS Vikrant on Monday morning, followed by a spectacular steampast of warships and a flypast by various aircraft.

In his address to the naval personnel, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of the INS Vikrant, calling it a testament to India’s 21st-century capabilities in hard work, talent, and commitment. He also mentioned the Brahmos missile system, noting its reputation for instilling fear in adversaries and the increasing international interest in acquiring it.

“Last night spent onboard INS Vikrant is hard to put into words,” Modi conveyed, speaking about the immense energy and enthusiasm he witnessed. “When I saw you singing patriotic songs yesterday, and the way you described Operation Sindoor in your songs, no words can ever fully convey the experience that a jawan feels standing on a battlefield.” He concluded by stating, “My Diwali has been special as it was spent amongst you.”

Commissioned in 2022, the INS Vikrant is not only India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier but also the largest warship built in the country. It stands as India’s second operational aircraft carrier, following the INS Vikramaditya, which was built on a Russian platform.

The Prime Minister’s visit underscored the growing naval strength of India’s western fleet, with several warships, including INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya, participating in the impressive steampast. A diverse range of aircraft also took part in the flypast, showcasing the nation’s aerial naval capabilities.
