Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and his wife, Sudha Murty, have reportedly declined to take part in the ongoing Social and Educational Survey in Karnataka. Sources from the BBMP indicated that the couple cited their non-belonging to any backward caste as the reason for their refusal, with the survey having been conducted on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
When enumerators visited their residence a few days prior, both Sudha and Narayana Murty informed them directly that they preferred not to have the survey conducted at their home.
According to sources, Sudha Murty formalized this decision by signing a self-declaration letter, explicitly refusing to provide information for the survey. This letter was issued by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission for the 2025 Social and Educational Survey.
The declaration form stated, ‘Due to some of my personal reasons, I am refusing to provide information in the Social and Educational Survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission.’
Beyond the standard text, Sudha Murty reportedly added a note in Kannada, reiterating their stance: ‘We do not belong to any backward community. Hence, we will not participate in a government-conducted survey meant for such groups.’
Attempts to reach Sudha Murty, her personal assistant, and Infosys officials for comments on the matter have so far been met with no response.
The survey, which commenced on September 22, was initially slated to conclude on October 7 but was later extended until October 18. Due to the significant involvement of teachers in the enumeration process, the government announced a holiday for schools until the revised completion date.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar reassured the public that any academic loss incurred during this period would be offset through additional classes.
