The unfortunate incident where a truck plowed into pedestrians on a bustling Indore road has seen its death toll rise to three. An additional person tragically passed away from their injuries on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, according to authorities.
This horrific event unfolded on Monday night, September 15, on Aerodrome Road in Indore. An out-of-control truck veered off course, striking multiple pedestrians and other vehicles before ultimately catching fire.
Immediately after the collision, two individuals were confirmed dead at the scene, and over ten others sustained injuries. Police reported that the truck driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol during the time of the accident.
Mahesh Khatwase, aged 54, who had been critically injured in the chaos, later passed away while receiving medical care at a private hospital, as confirmed by Additional Commissioner of Police Amit Singh.
The two victims identified at the scene were Laxmikant Soni, 50, and Kailashchandra Joshi, 62, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrikrishna Lalchandani.
The truck driver, Gulsher, 50, from Dhar district, has been apprehended. Initial investigations strongly indicate that he was severely intoxicated when the tragedy occurred.
The DCP stated, ‘We are currently conducting a thorough interrogation of the accused.’ Among the eleven people injured, two remain in critical condition.
The incident has ignited profound anger among local residents. Large crowds gathered both at the accident site and at hospitals, vocally protesting against the police and the local administration.
Locals have sharply questioned how a heavy commercial vehicle managed to enter the busy Aerodrome Road area – a zone where such vehicles are restricted – especially with traffic police personnel stationed at nearby intersections.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conveyed his deep sorrow regarding the incident and has ordered an official inquiry. The investigation will focus on understanding how heavy vehicles are permitted to enter city limits before 11 p.m.
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, the additional chief secretary of the home department will lead this comprehensive investigation.
