Significant leadership changes have been announced for India’s frontline paramilitary organizations, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Senior IPS officers Praveer Ranjan and Praveen Kumar officially took command of these vital forces on Tuesday, ushering in a new era of leadership.
Praveer Ranjan, a distinguished 1993-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the CISF. He steps into this pivotal role following the retirement of his predecessor, R.S. Bhatti. Before assuming the top position, Mr. Ranjan served as the Special DG of the CISF, where he was instrumental in overseeing the critical Airport Security division.
Meanwhile, Praveen Kumar, also a respected 1993-batch IPS officer, hailing from the West Bengal cadre, has taken the reins as the Director General (DG) of the ITBP. His appointment follows the superannuation of Rahul Rasgotra. The ITBP holds immense strategic importance as India’s primary border guarding force, tasked with securing the challenging India-China frontier.
Prior to this key appointment, Mr. Kumar held the esteemed position of Special Director within the Intelligence Bureau. Throughout his extensive 32-year career, he has amassed a wealth of experience, successfully undertaking numerous critical assignments across both his home cadre in West Bengal and within the Intelligence Bureau, demonstrating exceptional leadership and strategic acumen.
