The goal scorers for India included Arshdeep Singh, who netted in the 2nd minute, followed by P.B. Sunil in the 15th, Araijeet Singh Hundal in the 26th, and Roman Kumur in the 47th. New Zealand managed to get on the scoreboard with goals from Gus Nelson in the 41st minute and Aidan Max in the 52nd.
This impressive performance comes after India’s initial 3-2 victory against Great Britain in their opening match, setting a strong precedent for their campaign.
India’s offensive prowess was evident from the outset, with Arshdeep Singh breaking the deadlock just two minutes into the first quarter. Capitalizing on some defensive confusion from New Zealand, Arshdeep made a quick run from the right flank, his initial shot saved, but he expertly converted the rebound.
The lead was swiftly doubled in the dying moments of the first quarter, thanks to a clever penalty corner variation. Captain Rohit skillfully passed the ball to Sunil, who executed a low snapshot that found its way into the net. This successful attempt came after India’s first three penalty corners were thwarted by New Zealand’s defense.
Carrying a comfortable 2-0 advantage into the second quarter, India continued to press, creating numerous attacking opportunities. Araijeet Singh Hundal extended their lead further, unmarked in the circle, he turned quickly and fired a successful shot on goal.
New Zealand finally found a breakthrough in the third quarter when Gus Nelson scored in the 41st minute, narrowing India’s lead to 3-1. However, India responded in the final quarter, with Roman Kumur converting a penalty corner in the 47th minute, restoring a comfortable 4-1 cushion.
Aidan Max managed to pull another goal back for New Zealand in the 52nd minute, creating an intriguing final few minutes. Despite New Zealand’s determined efforts to stage a comeback, the resilient Indian defense held firm, ensuring their victory.
