India concluded its most successful World Para Athletics Championships campaign on Sunday, securing four additional medals to reach a remarkable total of 22. The final day was filled with drama, including medal upgrades and a sprint event that had to be re-run due to technical issues, showcasing the unpredictable and thrilling nature of top-tier competition.

Simran Sharma made headlines by earning a silver medal in the women’s 200m T12, clocking a new Asian record of 24.46 seconds. Simran, who initially finished third, was dramatically upgraded to second place after Venezuela’s Alejandra Lopez was disqualified for violating rule 7.10.4, which prohibits a guide from providing undue advantage to an athlete.

In the men’s javelin throw F41, Paris Paralympics gold medalist Navdeep Singh secured a silver medal. He finished behind Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah, who delivered a personal best of 48.86m, a performance that helped him avenge his earlier disqualification in Paris.
Sandeep also contributed to India’s tally by securing a bronze in the 200m T44 event. A moment of high drama unfolded in the women’s 100m T35 race when the starting gun misfired twice, yet the race was completed. After an hour-long deliberation, technical officials decided on a re-run, in which Preeti Pal impressively clocked 14.33 seconds to clinch second place.

Adding to the day’s twists, Saturday’s silver medalist, Soman Rana, saw his medal downgraded to bronze. This adjustment occurred after Brazil’s successful appeal to consider Thiago Dos Santos’s best throw as valid, consequently awarding Dos Santos the silver.
