In a recent press conference held in Vijayawada on Monday, September 15, 2025, Dr. Syed Zafar Islam, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced that the latest Goods & Services Tax (GST) reforms are set to significantly bolster India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector and alleviate financial pressures on the middle class.
Dr. Islam highlighted that these meticulously crafted reforms aim to fortify the nation’s small and medium businesses, which are crucial to India’s economic vitality. Simultaneously, they are expected to enhance the purchasing power of everyday citizens. By strategically placing most essential commodities into the 0% and 5% GST brackets, this initiative is anticipated to invigorate consumption, generate robust market demand, and propel economic expansion.
Reflecting on India’s remarkable economic journey, Dr. Islam noted that in 2014, the country was often categorized among less robust economies. He proudly stated, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership over the past eleven years, India has transformed into a globally respected and rapidly ascending economic powerhouse.”
He further lauded GST as one of the most profound and transformative reforms in independent India’s history, asserting its impact surpasses even the monumental 1991 liberalization scheme. These GST measures, coupled with other pivotal initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), are actively paving the path towards enduring economic stability and national self-reliance.
Dr. Islam concluded by articulating the Modi government’s unwavering and citizen-focused vision: to empower the middle class, invigorate various industries, and ensure equitable growth that spans all sectors of the economy.
Also in attendance at the event were BJP Andhra Pradesh chief spokesperson Valluru Jaya Prakash and State media in-charge Kilaru Dileep.
