Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, that India is setting its sights far beyond 5G. The nation aims to secure a significant 10% of global 6G patents, while its satellite communication market is projected to experience massive growth, tripling in value by 2033.
During his address at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Scindia highlighted India’s remarkable journey, transitioning from a technology adopter to a prominent digital leader on the world stage.
Emphasizing India’s evolution towards self-reliance, Scindia declared, “The day is not far off when people will say the world depends on India.” He passionately urged, “I appeal to all of you today: design here, solve here, and scale for everywhere. India innovates, and the world transforms.”
Scindia further elaborated on the groundbreaking impact of satellite communications, stating, “Satellite communications today are expanding horizons, taking connectivity from land to sea to space.” He projected a dramatic increase in the Satcom market, estimating its current value of nearly $4 billion (encompassing telecom and broadcasting) to surge to almost $15 billion by 2033. Crucially, he added, “At the heart of this whole revolution lies our people. India is going to be the world’s largest digitally skilled force in the days to come.”
Reaffirming India’s forward-looking approach, Scindia reiterated the nation’s aspirations beyond 5G, noting that the Bharat 6G Alliance is actively pursuing a target of 10% of all 6G patents, aligning with ongoing global efforts to establish 6G standards.
Scindia also highlighted India’s evolving identity, asserting that it is now a “product nation,” a significant shift from its traditional perception as primarily a service-oriented economy.
He attributed this transformation to the Prime Minister’s decisive implementation of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has successfully generated nearly ₹91,000 crore in new production, spurred ₹18,000 crore in exports, and facilitated the creation of 30,000 new jobs.
