In a pivotal decision, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, has approved a fresh wave of appointments and confirmations for judges across five High Courts. This significant move sees both experienced advocates and deserving judicial officers elevated to the bench.
During a crucial meeting held on Monday, September 15, 2025, the three-member Collegium, which also includes Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath, passed five distinct resolutions outlining these judicial changes.
For the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the Collegium gave its assent to elevate two distinguished senior advocates, Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma, to the esteemed position of Judges.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court will welcome three new judges from its ranks of judicial officers: Geetha Kadaba Bharatharaja Setty, Muralidhara Pai Borkatte, and Tyagaraja Narayan Inavally, whose elevations have been greenlit.
Additionally, Justice Kurubarahalli Venkataramareddy Aravind, who has been serving as an Additional Judge in the Karnataka High Court, has received the Collegium’s approval for his confirmation as a permanent judge.
The Tripura High Court also saw a key confirmation, with Justice Biswajit Palit, currently an Additional Judge, being approved for a permanent position.
Finally, the Madras High Court is set to gain two permanent judges. The Collegium recommended the confirmation of Justice N. Senthilkumar and Justice G. Arul Murugan, both of whom are currently serving as Additional Judges, to permanent roles on the Court.
