Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, recently participated in the Gaza Peace Summit held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. During the summit, he had the opportunity to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Singh conveyed that the summit served as a significant platform highlighting the global community’s commitment to fostering peace and dialogue. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Singh expressed his privilege in meeting President Al-Sisi, noting the strong and vibrant strategic partnership between Egypt and India. He reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to promoting peace, stability, and lasting security within the Middle East region.
The summit also saw Egyptian President El-Sisi thanking US President Donald Trump, along with the leaders of Qatar and Türkiye. President El-Sisi reaffirmed his support for the Gaza plan, expressing hope for a political framework that could lead to the implementation of a two-state solution to the ongoing conflict.
US President Donald Trump commented on the situation, stating that the war in Gaza has concluded after years of conflict and suffering. He highlighted the significant influx of humanitarian aid, including essential supplies like food and medical equipment, much of which was funded by attendees. Trump also noted the return of civilians to their homes and the reunification of hostages with their families, signaling a new dawn for rebuilding efforts and expressing gratitude to the Arab and Muslim nations for their role in this breakthrough.
In related discussions, Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun suggested that Lebanon and Israel should engage in negotiations to resolve outstanding issues stemming from their past conflict. He referenced successful past mediations, including the maritime border agreement achieved with U.S. and UN mediation, and questioned why similar diplomatic approaches could not be employed to address current pending matters, especially since war has not yielded desired results.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had previously announced his inability to attend the summit due to scheduling conflicts related to an upcoming Jewish holiday.
