President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the recent passing of renowned classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, stating that his demise marks an irreparable loss to Indian music.
A shining star of the illustrious Banaras gharana, Pandit Mishra was celebrated for bringing new dimensions and unparalleled depth to classical singing. His exceptional talent and dedication were recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honors.
Pandit Mishra peacefully passed away at the age of 89 due to age-related ailments at his daughter’s residence in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of a recent Thursday.
President Murmu, conveying her heartfelt condolences, emphasized, “The passing of the esteemed classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra ji has created an irreplaceable void in Indian music.” She further extended her deepest sympathies to his family, loved ones, and countless admirers.

The Prime Minister lauded the maestro’s invaluable and timeless contributions to Indian art and culture.
