A significant transformation is underway for three crucial suburban railway stations in the twin cities of Hyderabad: Hafizpet, Huppuguda, and HiTech City. The South Central Railway (SCR) is spearheading this redevelopment project, investing a total of ₹81.97 crore. Excitingly, these upgraded stations are rapidly nearing completion and are anticipated to open their doors to the public within the next three months.
Passengers can look forward to a host of modern amenities designed to enhance their travel experience. The revamped stations will boast brand-new passenger waiting halls, state-of-the-art digital signboards, and spacious 12-foot-wide foot overbridges, complete with two lifts and escalators for easy access. Furthermore, the plans include expanded circulating areas, striking new station facades, more platform shelters, and specially designed restrooms catering to persons with disabilities.
According to an SCR official statement released on Wednesday, Hafizpet station, a vital hub on the Lingampally-Falaknuma route, experiences a substantial daily footfall of approximately 9,000 passengers. With around 60 MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) trains and eight express trains making stops here, its upgrade at a cost of ₹29.21 crore is a welcome development.
Similarly, Huppuguda station, situated along the Falaknuma-Kacheguda section, serves approximately 5,000 daily commuters and manages around 50 trains, including various suburban services. This station is also undergoing a significant enhancement, receiving a second entry point and improved passenger facilities, all funded by an investment of ₹26.81 crore.
Meanwhile, the HiTech City station, another key location on the Falaknuma-Lingampally route, is being modernized with a budget of ₹25.95 crore. This upgrade will bring a brand-new booking office and a visually appealing redesigned facade. Serving about 4,000 passengers across 62 daily train trips, there’s also an exciting proposal to introduce stops for both short and long-distance trains at this station, further boosting connectivity.
These three stations, anticipated to be fully operational by the end of this year, are part of a larger initiative. They are among 40 stations in Telangana chosen under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which has an impressive total estimated outlay of ₹2,752 crore for comprehensive upgrades across the state.
The foundation stone for the redevelopment of these stations was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a series of events held between August 2023 and February 2024. Already, three other stations – Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar – have successfully completed their upgrades and have been inaugurated. Additionally, the major redevelopment projects at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally stations are also progressing under the same transformative scheme.
