Hyderabad is celebrating a significant victory against crime, with Police Commissioner C.V. Anand announcing an impressive 17% reduction in overall registered cases. The city saw a drop from 38,206 incidents between September 2023 and August 2024 to just 31,533 during the same period in 2024–25, marking a notable improvement in public safety.
During a recent crime review meeting on Sunday, September 28, Commissioner Anand lauded the exceptional teamwork and unwavering dedication of police officers and staff throughout the Commissionerate. Their collective commitment has been instrumental in fostering a secure and peaceful environment, ensuring that major events, festivals, and public gatherings can proceed smoothly and without incident.
The statistics presented paint a clear picture of progress, showcasing reductions across a variety of crime categories. Murders saw a 14% decrease, dropping from 85 to 73 cases. Even more impressively, attempted murders plummeted by 29%, from 259 to 185 incidents. Additionally, cases of assault (hurt) were down by 15%, kidnappings by 12%, and cybercrime by a solid 14%. Notably, the police also enhanced their cybercrime detection rate, moving from 40% to 42%.
Property-related crimes also experienced a substantial downturn, with a 26% overall reduction from 5,484 to 4,082 cases. Robberies saw a dramatic 46% decrease, while ‘murders for gain’ dropped by 40%, and general thefts were down by 27%. House burglaries, though showing a smaller improvement, still declined by 2%. The police’s success extends to recovery, with the overall recovery rate for stolen property climbing from 54% to 55%.
While many categories saw improvements, crimes against women presented a mixed outlook. Encouragingly, rape cases decreased by 23%, from 632 to 485, and incidents of outraging modesty fell by 20%. Kidnapping cases involving women also saw a 10% reduction. However, there was a concerning rise in dowry deaths, from 11 to 13, marking an 18% increase, and harassment cases showed only a slight 1% decline.
Commissioner Anand expressed immense pride in the police force’s collaborative spirit, stating, “The Hyderabad City Police have truly worked as one team to protect peace and security, yielding remarkable results. We’ve demonstrated that with collective effort, there’s no limit to what we can achieve. Let’s maintain this momentum and continue our journey towards making Hyderabad a truly crime-free city.”
The impactful meeting concluded with the presence of several key senior officials, including Additional Commissioners of Police Vikram Singh Mann and P. Vishwa Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic D. Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police Administration Parimala Hana Nutan, and various other Deputy Commissioners of Police representing different zones and specialized units.
