Cosmoserve Space, a pioneering startup in the space technology arena, has successfully closed its pre-seed funding round, securing an impressive $3.17 million. This substantial investment marks one of the largest pre-seed raises ever recorded in the space tech sector, especially at such an early, ideation stage.
Based in Hyderabad, the company was founded by Chiranjeevi Phanindra, a distinguished former scientist at ISRO and former Deputy Project Director of India’s ambitious Gaganyaan mission. Cosmoserve’s core mission is to develop advanced autonomous robotic spacecraft, explicitly designed to combat the escalating global problem of space debris – a growing threat to active satellites, vital space stations, and the future of space exploration.
The funding round saw strong participation from prominent investors, with Alan Rutledge, known for his early investments in over 20 unicorn companies, leading the charge. Additional backing came from AUM Ventures and Shakti VC. A major testament to Cosmoserve’s groundbreaking vision is the involvement of Ram Shriram, a celebrated early investor in Google and a 25-year board member, who has joined as a key investor, signaling profound confidence in the company’s potential and its vital mission.
Chiranjeevi Phanindra expressed his excitement, stating, “This crucial funding will significantly accelerate our efforts to create cutting-edge solutions for space debris mitigation, thereby ensuring a safer and more sustainable orbital environment for generations to come.” Furthermore, Cosmoserve Space proudly notes the support of Pawan Kumar Chandana, the co-founder of Skyroot Aerospace, highlighting a collaborative spirit within India’s burgeoning private space industry.
