The Hyderabad City Traffic Police are relentlessly pursuing traffic violators, with a recent enforcement drive seeing 212 individuals brought before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Nampally for drunk driving offenses. These cases, stemming from the Abids, Chikkadapally, Saifabad, and Gandhinagar traffic police jurisdictions, were heard on October 18.
According to the Central Zone’s Traffic Assistant Commissioner of Police, the court imposed a total penalty of ₹6,79,600. Of those facing trial, 187 motorists were each fined ₹3,100, while a further 25 individuals received jail sentences alongside fines amounting to ₹99,900.
Beyond drunk driving, the police also penalized 147 motorists for using mobile phones while driving, with each receiving a ₹1,100 fine, totaling ₹1,61,700. Additionally, seven minors found operating vehicles illegally were fined ₹2,100 each, summing up to ₹14,700.
The Traffic department emphasized that these ongoing enforcement activities are crucial for reducing road accidents caused by reckless behavior. The initiative also aims to significantly raise public awareness about the paramount importance of road safety and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
