Hyderabad is gearing up for a crucial pulse polio immunization drive from October 12 to 15, targeting over 5.17 lakh children under the age of five. This vital initiative is part of a larger nationwide effort to prevent the re-emergence of polio, with Hyderabad playing a key role as one of six districts in Telangana selected for this special campaign.
According to Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari, who addressed a meeting on Thursday, an impressive 2,843 polio booths will be operational throughout the district. These centers will administer oral polio drops to children aged 0-5 years from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the drive. To guarantee maximum reach and ensure no child is left behind, more than 11,200 dedicated health personnel will conduct comprehensive door-to-door visits between October 13 and 15.
The district administration is taking extra precautions by focusing special attention on 164 identified high-risk areas. This intensive four-day campaign aims to reach a staggering 9.36 lakh households, underscoring the commitment to eradicating polio and safeguarding the health of Hyderabad’s youngest residents.
