The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Hyderabad and the neighboring districts of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy, effective Tuesday, September 23, 2025. This significant weather alert was announced in their forecast released on Monday night.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) provided a more detailed weather outlook via social media. They anticipate light rain and drizzles between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by scattered light to moderate showers affecting 25% to 50% of GHMC areas from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drizzles and light rainfall are then expected to continue overnight until 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
In light of the impending weather, the GHMC has strongly advised citizens to avoid low-lying and waterlogged areas. They have also urged prompt reporting of open manholes or catch pits, emphasized exercising extreme caution around electric poles and wires in flooded zones, and stressed the importance of ensuring children’s safety.
Complementing these warnings, the Cyberabad traffic police issued their own advisory. They noted that no significant rainfall is expected until the afternoon, but a yellow alert will be in effect from afternoon through the night, indicating the need for increased vigilance on the roads.
