Hyderabad is buzzing with pride as two distinguished researchers from the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Dr. Labani Ray (Senior Principal Scientist) and Dr. H.V.S. Satyanarayana (Chief Scientist), have been officially inducted as Fellows of the esteemed Telangana Academy of Sciences for 2024.
Dr. Labani Ray’s exceptional contributions include establishing India’s sole Centre for Geothermal Energy Research (CGER). This pioneering laboratory is dedicated to measuring rock thermal conductivity at high temperatures, which is crucial for developing more precise geothermal models of the Indian Lithosphere.

Meanwhile, Dr. H.V.S. Satyanarayana has been instrumental in creating a dedicated test and calibration center for seismic instruments. He has spearheaded significant 2D/3D projects aimed at resource exploration and played a pivotal role in developing national seismic networks for comprehensive earthquake monitoring and hazard assessment, as detailed in a recent press release.
