Just a day after being battered by heavy rains, Hyderabad and its surrounding regions found themselves under dark clouds once more this Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2025. As evening rush hour began, these clouds opened up, unleashing another round of intense showers across the city.
In less than an hour, the torrential rain had already turned many areas into waterlogged zones. Maitrivanam and Saifabad were among the worst affected localities. The Hyderabad Traffic Police promptly issued advisories, urging commuters traveling from Panjagutta towards Begumpet to seek alternative routes due to severe flooding near GRT and Praja Bhavan.

Following Wednesday night’s arduous commutes and widespread inconvenience caused by flooded roads, citizens were naturally apprehensive. Many were glued to their windows, keenly observing the sky and constantly checking for the latest weather updates.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had indeed issued a morning forecast predicting light to moderate rain or thunderstorms for the evening or night, occasionally accompanied by gusty winds and intense spells.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the highest rainfall recorded in the city until 4:00 p.m. was 1.7 cm in the Alwal circle of Medchal Malkajgiri.
The IMD Hyderabad Centre’s update at 5:09 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, indicated that moderate to heavy rain was expected to continue in the city over the next few hours. (Photo Credit: BY ARRANGEMENT)
