An intense overnight downpour has tragically displaced hundreds of families in Hyderabad, as the surging Musi River engulfed low-lying neighborhoods on Friday, September 26, 2025. Mohammed Khalid, a resident of Moosanagar, recounted his harrowing experience: ‘The rainwater invaded our homes by 9 p.m., leaving us awake and stranded outside, desperately waiting for the waters to recede.’
Adding to the distress, residents like Shaheen, also waiting by her inundated home, expressed profound disappointment over the lack of official communication. ‘Unlike previous years, there was no prior announcement or warning. Our clothes, essential rations, refrigerator, and beds are all ruined. We are accustomed to floods, but a timely alert would have made all the difference,’ she lamented.
Even officials on the ground echoed the residents’ concerns. A HYDRAA officer, present at the scene, confirmed, ‘It was a sudden and unexpected flood. No announcements were made.’ As a critical safety measure, electrical supply to the affected areas has been disconnected.
This event eerily mirrored the devastating Hyderabad flood of September 28, 1908, though thankfully on a smaller scale. Heavy rainfall in Vikarabad caused the Himayatsagar reservoir to swell, necessitating the release of water that subsequently inundated the Chaderghat area.
