A routine security check at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) took an unexpected turn on Wednesday when a 29-year-old software professional was detained after security personnel found a live bullet in his luggage.
The passenger, identified as Vishal and a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand, was in transit, flying from Kolkata to Bengaluru with a layover in Hyderabad. During the standard security screening process at the Hyderabad airport, officials discovered a 0.387 mm live round in his possession. The RGIA Outpost Inspector, S Kanakaiah, confirmed that police were immediately notified of the discovery.
Initial inquiries revealed that the bullet allegedly belongs to Vishal’s father, a retired army officer who holds a valid firearm license. Vishal asserted that he had inadvertently carried the live round with him during his travels, unaware it was in his bag.
Authorities have registered a case regarding the incident, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full circumstances.
