The Telangana Human Rights Commission has taken proactive steps following a tragic accident in Chevella mandal, Rangareddy district, which resulted in 19 fatalities. The Commission, led by Chairperson Justice Shameem Akther, has formally requested comprehensive reports from several critical departments.
These departments include Transport, Home, Mines & Geology, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Rangareddy district Collector, and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). The Commission highlighted a worrying pattern of recurring accidents and pointed to alleged negligence in road safety, failures in enforcement, and delays in infrastructure development, asserting that these issues infringe upon the fundamental Right to Life guaranteed under Article 21.
All involved authorities have been given a deadline of December 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, to submit their factual and action-taken reports. The accident itself involved a gravel-laden lorry colliding with a TGSRTC bus. The impact was severe, with gravel spilling into the bus and onto passengers, tragically claiming multiple lives, including that of an infant.
