Indian tennis legend Rohan Bopanna, a revered figure and one of only four Indians to clinch a Grand Slam title, officially announced his retirement from professional tennis on Saturday, November 1, 2025. This marks the culmination of an extraordinary career that spanned over two challenging decades on the ATP Tour.
Bopanna, aged 45, made his final competitive appearance at the recent Paris Masters. Partnering with Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, he played his last match in the opening round earlier this week.
In a heartfelt statement titled “A Goodbye… But Not The End,” Bopanna shared his decision to “officially hang up his racquet.” He reflected on his remarkable journey, which began in the humble surroundings of Coorg, India, and ultimately led him to the grandest stages of international tennis.
“My journey started in the small town of Coorg, India. From chopping wood to build a stronger serve, jogging through fragrant coffee estates for stamina, and chasing ambitious dreams on cracked courts, to eventually competing under the bright lights of the world’s most prestigious arenas—it truly feels surreal,” Bopanna penned in his emotional farewell.
Notably, Bopanna had already concluded his career representing India after the Paris Olympics last year. He had also previously announced his retirement from the Davis Cup in 2023, playing his final tie for the nation against Morocco in Lucknow.
